A Chinese businesswoman remains in a critical condition in Tonga's Vaiola Hospital after being shot in the stomach and leg during a robbery in Nuku'alofa.

The 54-year-old woman was attacked in her shop last Friday night.

Nothing was taken in the robbery.

A police spokesman says they have suspects but are yet to make an arrest for the shooting.

He says there are occasional armed robberies in Tonga but it is rare for victims to be shot.
