Relations between Australian police and Solomons people restored after 2006 riot

The Australian police commissioner, Mick Keelty, says relations between Australian police and Solomon Islands residents have improved dramatically in the 18 months since officers were injured in the Honiara riots.

No one was killed in the riots but more than 30 Australian officers were injured as they fronted rock-throwing mobs.

Mr Keelty says the relationship between police and islands residents is largely repaired.

However, the relationship between the Solomons and Australian governments remains strained as the Solomons refuses to hand over Attorney-General Julian Moti, wanted by Australia on child-sex charges.
