4:53 am on 6 November 2007

The mayor of Manihiki in the Cook Islands northern group, Kora Kora, is calling on the government to help cope with the 69-percent fare increase on Air Rarotonga flights.

The fare to the northern groups is now nearly 15-hundred US dollars one way - a rise of more than 600 dollars.

Mr Kora says they need government support to cope with the fare increase.
