Samoa's coconut has been chosen by one of the world's largest cosmetic companies, Body Shop International, for its products.

The first shipment, 300kgs of organic coconut oil will be shipped to the United Kingdom this week and a bigger shipment is due to be sent in January.

The oil will go into the production of a new product range which is to be launched in the Northern Hemisphere next summer.

Executive Director of Women in Business Development Adimaimalaga Tafuna'i says Samoa is the first South Pacific country to trade with the Body Shop International.

She says its taken them six months to develop a market relationship with the company.

Tafuna'i says the company will be sending a media and promotions team to Samoa next year to develop a media campaign that will be used in the product's launching.

She envisions that by the middle of next year, Body Shop International stores in all continents will be selling products containing Samoan Virgin coconut oil.
