Transparency International Papua New Guinea is expanding its work of fostering values through civics education.

With assistance from the United Nations Democracy Fund, TI has launched a programme in the country's schools to encourage values and leadership training..

A director of TI in PNG, Peter Aitsi, says the Good Governance and Anti-Corruption Education Project will target lower secondary and upper primary schools.

He says there will be an emphasis on some of the common values the organisation feels have been neglected over the years.

"And that is the issue of honesty, obviously service to community and consideration of others. These are fundamental values in most countries but we feel that somewhere it needs to be re-stated in the eduation system, just so that our youth are also given the opportunity to understand a little bit more about their roles as they grow into adults."
