Three containers full of educational and health equipment donated from New Zealand, is to be shipped to Tonga by the end of the year.

The EcoCare Pacific Trust has organised more than fifty hospital beds, over a hundred computers and thousands of books to make its way to Tonga.

A member of the Trust, Russell Taylor, says some of the equipment will go towards furnishing the new hospital ward in Tonga.

He says the need for this kind of equipment is enormous.

"I f you go to a school in a island that's away from the main centre in any of our pacific neighbours, I'm sure you'll find that there are probably no libraries, no text books, no exercise books, no pens and pencils. So the transfer of information can purely be by word of mouth in a lot of cases. So what we're saying is, this sort of stuff is not rubbish, it's gold."

Russell Taylor says the EcoCare Pacific Trust is still needing help to pay for the costs of shipping the containers, which need to get to Tonga by December.
