Fiji NGO wants judiciary screened by UN Rapporteur

The Pacific Centre for Public Integrity has renewed its call for the Fiji interim Government to invite the UN's Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges to examine the judiciary in Fiji.

This comes after last week's Pacific Judicial Conference in Tonga noted that the judiciary is under pressure from the Fiji interim government, which goes against the concept of an independent judiciary.

The NGO's executive director, Angie Heffernan, says the interim government should explain to the public why it will not allow a UN fact finding mission into the country.
