Fiji's ATH suspends trading in its shares

Fiji's Amalgamated Telecom Holdings Limited has suspended trading in its shares on the Suva-based South Pacific Stock Exchange.

ATH is the majority owner of all of Fiji's formerly monopoly telecommunications companies and the suspension comes after they reached agreement with the government to end their monopoly.

Details of that agreement have not been revealed.

The holding company's acting chief executive, Tomasi Vakatora, says the suspension is necessary to quell speculation and allow for a cooling down period.

He says share trading will remain suspended until all parties have approved the terms of the settlement to end their monopolies.
