Commissioners to review College of Marshall Islands

11:41 am on 4 December 2007

Two Hawaii-based commissioners are to review the College of the Marshall Islands shortly and it's hoped the school will get off the probation list for the first time in more than 6 years.

The commissioners are from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the commission meets in January.

It will then review the College of the Marshall Islands' progress in meeting U.S. accreditation standards.

The college has steadily improved from its precarious status two years ago, when it was just one step away from losing accreditation and the $4 million in U.S. federal funding that it receives.

If the college had closed it would have affected the education of countless young Marshall Islanders.
