NGO in Fiji says a year on from the coup life is getting harder for many

One year on from Fiji's military coup, everyday life for many in Fiji's appears to be worsening.

Sharon Bagwan Rolls, is the coordinator of Femlink Pacific, an organisation involved in advocacy and improving communication for women.

She says many women feel marginalised and families are concerned about their economic security:

"The cost of living, the issues of not being able to access medical supplies, the fears about how they are going to enable their children to get to school. So the economic impact has been critical and if you make that linkage once again with the social realities when you are living in poverty or economic distress it's been really harsh."

Sharon Bagwan Rolls says the economic situation facing many in Fiji before the coup was not great.

But she says political instability exacerbates the situation.

Her organisation,Femlink Pacific, begins a range of consultations in Ba, Nadi, Nausori and Labasa from tomorrow.

They will try to find out from local women what they see as the important issues in the year ahead.
