Samoa lowers entry permit fees for holiday season

4:21 pm on 13 December 2007

The Samoa government has reduced the fee for entry permits for US nationals from American Samoa for the holiday season.

Effective today the 14-day permit fee which normally costs 30 US dollars has been dropped to 10 dollars.

Samoa's Consul General in Pago Pago, Mataafa Tomasi, says the public will be advised when the cheaper holiday permit will be discontinued.

The Samoa Association of Manufacturers and Exporters had asked the government to waive the permit for the holidays to help boost visitor numbers from American Samoa.

Mataafa says Samoa will only do away with the entry permits if American Samoa drops the requirement for Samoan citizens.
