Taiwan has signed an agreement with Palau to set up an Austronesian Forum Headquarters in Palau.

The office is to be the permanent base to help Taiwan's relationship with the region's countries which maintain diplomatic ties with Taipei.

The Marianas Variety newspaper says the arrangement was signed for Palau by the state minister, Tommy Shmull.

Taiwan's ambassador, Matthew Lee, says the office was set up following the two recent summits held between Taiwan and its Pacific allies, which are Tuvalu, Nauru, Solomon Islands, Kiribati and the Marshall Islands.
