Samoan government delays switch to driving on left hand side

6:07 am on 17 December 2007

The Samoa government has delayed its plan to switch to driving on the left hand side of the road from July 2008 to the middle of 2009.

The delay is said to be to give time for individuals and the business community to bring right hand drive vehicles into the country.

The Prime Minister, Tuila'epa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi, says the import of right hand drive vehicles will start in February 2008.

But people organizing a protest march against the switch, due to be held tomorrow, say they will still go ahead.
