The World shot put champion Valerie Vili says her winning throw of 19.24 metres in Auckland last night is her best ever after coming back from a long break.

The New Zealand born Tongan athlete was competing at the John Walker night of miles meet at Mt Smart stadium her first outing since September.

The 23-year-old holds the New Zealand all comers and resident record at 20.20m and the national record of 20.54m set in winning the world title at Osaka in August.

Her husband Bertrand Vili set a New Caledonian discus throw record of 62.13m.

The couple are looking to heading over to Noumea on Saturday before Vili competes in Canberra and Sydney next month before the IAAF Permit Meeting at Waitakere on February 19.
