Land in Samoa under dispute to be surveyed

11:44 am on 27 December 2007

The leading chief of a village in Samoa claiming land that the government wants to develop into a township near the airport, says the land in dispute will now be surveyed.

High chief Toalepaialii Toeolesulusulu confirmed to the Samoa Observer that the survey was agreed to at a meeting between chiefs of Satapuala and the Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi.

Toalepaialii says the Government will survey all the land involved.

Another meeting between the village and the Prime Minister is scheduled next month.

The land Satapuala is claiming as theirs historically is currently under the authority of state-owned Samoa Trust Estates Corporation.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister said all the requests regarding land from villages like Faleatiu, Satuimalufilufi, Mulifanua and Samatau are also being addressed at the same time.
