Earthquake in Papua injures six

5:37 am on 8 January 2008

An earthquake in the Indonesian province of Papua has injured six people and triggered fires in a number of homes.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the earthquake measured 6 point 2 and was only 35 km deep.

It's epicentre was 8 km north of the coastal town of Manokwari.

The head of Indonesia's Meteorology and Geophysics Agency's earthquake centre, Fauzi, said the shake is thought to have tipped over stoves or lights and caused the fires.
