New Zealand denies Fiji report that travel ban has been eased

The New Zealand government has denied Fiji media reports that it has eased travel restrictions imposed on people linked to the 2006 military coup.

Fijilive quoted a task team of the National Council for Building a Better Fiji as saying it appreciated the easing of the sanctions.

The report claimed the relaxation applied to those involved in drafting a people's charter for Fiji.

But the New Zealand foreign ministry says the report is incorrect and the restrictions still apply.

Sanctions have been in place for many people involved in or associated with the coup.
