Businesses and Samoan government offices in Apia were cleaning up yesterday after heavy rainfall put their premises under water.
The Samoa Meteorological Service says 108 millimeters of rainfall was recorded in a 12 hour period, the highest ever.
According to the Samoa Observer it was a difficult day for local businesses, vehicles and pedestrians.
Pesega, Vaimoso, Fugalei, Togafu'afu'a, Saleufi and Taufusi were hardest hit.
Most businesses were closed, schools were dismissed early and many cars broke down on the road.
At Fugalei, most houses were flooded.
Meteorological Office Principal Scientific Officer, Sala Sagato Tuiafisi said the heavy downpours were caused by the low pressure system that is now affecting Fiji.
