Cyclone Gene causes power cuts in Fiji's capital

Reports from Fiji say power has been cut in the capital, Suva.

The Fijilive website reports the power supply has been disrupted since just after dusk yesterday due to damages of power lines by Tropical Cyclone Gene.

It says critical operation staff of the Fiji Electricity Authority have been deployed to respective stations to repair power lines.

No shopping outlets were open for business as at 8 am today.

Schools will remain close until further notice.

The FEA says power supply to the whole of Labasa and Savusavu have also been disrupted.

The authority continues to warn members of the public to take every precaution and to keep away from damaged power lines.
