A charter flight is examining the southern islands of Vanuatu to assess the damage caused by Cyclone Gene.

Officials from the National Disaster Management Office and a Red Cross representative are on board.

The worst affected islands are said to be Futuna and Aneityum.

The Red Cross in Vanuatu says it has a stock of practical supplies ready to ship to the area once transport and storage facilities are available.
