Fiji's women's basketball coach Michael Whippy has roped in six overseas-based players for the Olympic qualifying tournament in Spain in June.

New York-based players Mikaelar Whippy and Valerie Nainima, Helen Rodan in Texas, Agnes Tuilevuka in Hawaii, and New Zealand-based Letava Whippy and Bulou Tuisue will strengthen the side.

The six players will join the rest of the squad for a tour to New Zealand to play against North Harbour, Auckland and two games against the Junior Tall Ferns in April as part of preparations.

Netball players Matelita Shaw, Matila Waqanidrola and Luisa Robanakadavu are also part of the team.

It's the first time a Pacific nation will take part in a FIBA championship at a world scale.

Fiji has been placed in Pool C alongside Brazil and Spain.
