Rural Solomons people said to want practical measures

The Solomon Islands Development Trust says rural people want more practical measures put in place as part of the government's new policy framework.

The new Solomon Islands government has just launched the Coalition for National Unity and Rural Advancement policy.

The government admits the policy runs along the same lines as the previous administration's bottom-up-approach, aiming to improve livelihoods in rural areas.

The Development Trust's executive co-ordinator, Jennifer Wate , says it's good that the government continues to prioritise rural development.

But she says that more than just pouring money into various places, the government must help link rural people to economic opportunity:

"We would like to see some practical work done in the rural area, for example getting access to markets and shipping is one area."
