The Prime Minister of Vanuatu has been welcomed to Parliament, during his first visit to New Zealand.

Ham Lini is on a four day visit and is meeting with the Prime Minister Helen Clark this afternoon.

Miss Clark says Vanuatu is New Zealand's third largest aid recipient, receiveing 15-million-dollars a year, a figure she says is set to rise.

About 300 Vanuatu workers are taking part in the government's employment scheme aimed at easing worker shortages, mainly in Central Otago and Hawkes Bay.

Mr Lini will visit some of them in Hastings during his trip.
