President of Fiji Rugby Union resigns

10:41 am on 20 February 2008

The Fiji Rugby Union has regretfully accepted the resignation of Ratu Sakiusa Tuisolia, as the President of the organisation.

Tuisolia was FRU president for nearly two years.

He says his resignation is one of principle and necessity to protect and uphold the dignity of the position of President of the FRU.

Tuisolia's move follows charges laid against him during his previous position as CEO of Airports Fiji Ltd.

FRU chairman Keni Dakuidreketi says it's sad that Tuisolia had to resign, but he respected his decision.

A new president will be elected at the AGM in April.
