Solomon Islands withdraws decision to reject Ramsi report

6:05 am on 25 February 2008

Solomon Islands Prime Minister says his government has decided to rescind a decision by the previous government to reject a Forum Review Report on the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands.

Dr Derek Sikua told a Forum Foreign Minister's Standing Committee on RAMSI in Honiara that his cabinet has acknowledged last year's report and taken note of it.

The previous government under former Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare rejected the report and its recommendations protesting that it was biased and failed to represent the interest of Solomon Islanders.

Forum Leaders went on to endorse the report in Tonga last year and its recommendations.

Dr Sikua says a Solomon Islands Parliamentary Select Committee will be established to further deliberate on the report and its recommendations.
