Fiji's opposition leader, Mick Beddoes, says the interim finance minister should stand down while allegations against him are investigated.

Mahendra Chaudhry is at the centre of claims he failed to declare tax on income earned between 2000 and 2003

Mr Bedooes says says Mr Chaudhry is a seasoned enough politician to know he should step down.

"If any minister, rightly or wrongly is embroiled in any controversy or a scandal such as this, there has been no denying the recieveing of the money...But when a minister, and in particular the Minister of finance, and the issue at hand happens to be allegations of possible tax evasion then the right thing to do is to step aside."
