Activities of former senior Cabinet Minister in Nauru under police scrutiny

The Nauru Government has confirmed that police are investigating some of the activities of the former Finance and Foreign Minister, David Adeang.

Claims by a rebel faction in the Nauru Parliament last year that Mr Adeang was involved with Asian businessmen who had allegedly sold Nauruan passports, was a key factor in the overthrow of the Scotty administration late last year.

The new Finance and Foreign Minister, Dr Kieren Keke, says these links are being looked into.

"They are quite serious and it wouldn't be right for me to make any comment on them until we have the results of the investigation but we are investigating - the police are involved and there are some other mechanisms that are currently underway to get more detail and basically to compile some evidence."
