Niue's finance minister is heading a team of government officials who are to meet with New Zealand government officials this week to discuss support for Niue's budget.

Fisa Pihigia says they would like New Zealand to help them pay for the hosting the Pacific Islands Forum summit in August.

Mr Pihigia says estimates suggest Niue will need an additional one point two million New Zealand dollars in cash, but he says they already have plans to raise half of that themselves.

He says the New Zealand government is also aware that around seven million dollars is needed to ensure the fishing processor, Reef Fishing, can re-start operations..

"That's something that Niue cannot afford and don't have unless New Zealand will consider assisting Reef with that amount they request but certainly Niue is not in a position to come up with that total sum."
