The American Samoa Governor, Togiola Tulafono, says he plans to establish an agency to look at renewable sources of energy.

It will study how wind, solar and ocean waves can be harnessed to reduced the territory's dependence on imported oil and diesel.

The Governor says finding alternative sources of energy and making use of them will not be an easy task, but it is a problem being confronted by most countries.

Meanwhile, Togiola says has reviewed the American Samoa Power Authority's electricity rates and says the continued increase in the cost of diesel is a major factor to the rise in electricity charges.
