A proposal to establish a 'national park of the sea' in the Commowealth of the Northern Marianas' is up for discussion when the Western Pacific Regional Fishery Management Council meets on Saipan this week.

The Marianas' Variety says creating the national park in the CNMI's three northern most islands is being driven by the Pew Environment Group, an NGO devoted to environmental education and protection.

Preserving marine eco-systems is one of the group's key priorities.

The goal of the project is to identify marine eco-ecosystems that can be protected for future generations.
