Six Samoan police officers have been certified to use mountain bikes for law enforcement.
The officers have recently completed a couse in Australia.
The Samoa Observer newspaper says their mobility means bike patrols are being increasingly used by police.
It says they can be swiftly deployed to the scene of a crime.and will soon be in use in downtown Apia.
