The president of Fiji's ousted ruling SDL party has resigned.

The website Fijilive reports that Ratu Kalokalo Loki, who was also the party's management board chairman, tendered his resignation nearly two weeks ago.

This has been confirmed by the party leader and ousted Prime Minister, Laisenia Qarase.

He has paid tribute to Ratu Kalokalo's leadership, especially during the political crisis.

The party says he now wishes to devote more time to his family.
