Talks are set to resume in French Polynesia later today in a bid to end a 13-day strike that has led to a fuel shortage.

A meeting this morning between unionists and fuel supply companies ended without agreement amid concern that the dispute could worsen.

A mediation effort by the President, Gaston Flosse, had also failed.

He has called on the French state to intervene to ensure that a tanker which has been off Tahiti can offload its cargo.
