Solomons remembers 2007 tsunami victims

The people of Western and Choiseul Provinces in Solomon Islands are today and tomorrow commemorating the first anniversary of the tsunami and earthquake that claimed 52 lives on April 2nd last year.

The Governor General Sir Nathaniel Waena will be the guest of honour during the two day event which will include a candle night at John F. Kennedy Stadium to remember those who lost their lives during the double disaster.

A monument will also be unveiled in front of the Gizo Police Station and wreaths will be floated at the Gizo wharf.

Sir Nathaniel will be visiting some areas destroyed by the disaster.

Many of those affected are yet to return to their original place of dwelling.
