One of Fiji's prominent diplomats says the country must look to Cuba to source pharmaceutical products and medical training for doctors.
Berenado Vunibobo is the military-appointed Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York.
He told Fiji Live online that it is important that countries where these medical supplies are sourced from are known to be manufacturers and distributors of quality products.
He revealed he had had a meeting with the Permanent Secretary for Health Dr Lepani Waqatakirewa and had discussed the issue, along with the continuous doctor shortages.
Mr Vunibobo says Cuba has a very good pharmaceutical industry.
He says in a way, this was encouraging because Fiji has to lessen its dependence on its neighbours Australia and New Zealand.
