Final draft for Solomons federal constitution by July next year - Prime Minister

3:53 pm on 7 April 2008

The Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Dr Derek Sikua, says the final draft of a federal constitution is expected to be completed and delivered to the Government by July 2009.

The Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation reports Dr Sikua has been updating Parliament on the constitutional reform project.

He says two committees, from the Constitutional Congress and the Eminent Persons Advisory Council, will sit simultaneously from August to October this year to scrutinize the draft.

Dr Sikua says a National Convention made up of Provincial Authority representatives will then meet with the full Constitutional Congress and the Advisory Council.

He says these bodies will compile a draft to go to Cabinet by July next year.
