The village of Ta'elefaga in Samoa is planning to file a lawsuit against the Electric Power Corporation or EPC, over alleged environmental damage.

The villagers claims waste is going to the village's coastal area from the corporation's hydro-power plant located in the village.

The lawyer representing Ta'elefaga villagers, Leulua'ialii Tasi Malifa, says preparation for the case is now possible after an environmental report into the damage was completed.

During an inspection the lawyer says a huge area of the village's coastal area is being covered with a black substance.

Residents have complained about bad smell coming from the dam at night time, as well as the noise from the hydro plant engines.
