American Samoa's Public Defender Tautai Aviata Faalevao has resigned from his cabinet position, effective from April the 30th.

Tautai says he wants to explore other opportunities.

Tautai who once ran for Delegate to the US Congress would not say whether he has any intention of running for public office.

Tautai submitted his resignation letter to Governor Togiola Tulafono early last week but as of Thursday has not received a response from the governor.

Tautai has been Public Defender for more than eight years and was Attorney General during the three terms of the late Governor Uifaatali Peter Coleman.
