By the first quarter of 2009 Information Technologies American Samoa hopes to begin testing for its first call centre in the territory by the first quarter of 2009.

The company moved closer to realizing its plans to operate a 2000 seat call center which would employ up to 4500 people in the first year with the signing on Saturday of a memorandum of agreement with the American Samoa Government.

CEO Mark Hunsaker said the MOU outlines the direction that the company, the government and other parties need to take to develop the call centre industry in American Samoa.

The company is eyeing sites in the Industrial Park and the Tafuna area as possibilities for its premises.

Construction should begin in the latter part of 2008, and hiring will begin before the end of the first quarter of 2009.
