American Samoa's Governor, Togiola Tulafono, has informed Fono leaders that he will be calling a special session of the Fono later this month.

The Governor says the session will be convened the week of April 28th and will last ten days.

The main topics that will be on the agenda for the special session are the military voting bill, and teacher salary reclassification.

The military voting bill would allow uniformed service members to register and cast absentee ballots for the Gubernatorial and House of Representatives election.

Regarding the teacher salary reclassification, Senate President Lolo Moliga, quoted the governor saying that the salary increases will not require a new revenue source.

Togiola said savings in the current year budget for the Department of Education will cover the increases.

Lolo says he will be interested to see how DOE can generate enough savings to cover the salary hikes.

He says he would be very concerned if the department is cutting services to make up for the pay adjustments.
