Fiji's ousted prime minister Laisenia Qarase has welcomed the steps now being taken to get him and the interim prime minister to have an informal meeting.

He told the website, FijiVillage, that he hoped that the meeting would take place, unlike the last meeting which was mooted by former New Zealand Governor General, Sir Paul Reeves.

FijiVillage revealed yesterday that steps are now being taken to get Commodore Frank Bainimarama and Mr Qarase together for an informal meeting.

Methodist Church of Fiji president, the Reverend Laisiasa Ratabacaca, confirmed that he was waiting for Archbishop Petero Mataca's call to set up a meeting between Mr Qarase and the Commodore.

The Reverend Ratabacaca said he had already met Mr Qarase about the matter.
