Pacific Arts Festival costume issue resolved

American Samoa will not restrict the wearing of any traditional costumes during the Pacific Arts Festival.

The territory is hosting this year's Arts Festival from July the 20th until August the 2nd.

There have been discussions about whether it should prohibit the wearing of costumes that are too revealing.

Fili Sagapolutele, reports.

"There's some cultural sensitivity when it comes to the cultural wares the Pacific Islands are to wear during their performances. The committee has come to the conclusion that American Samoa needs to accept the cultural performances of the 'skanky', that's how they put it, outfits and costumes that the Pacific Islands are going to be wearing. They have asked the Pacific Island nations not to be too revealing."
