Solomon Islands Police Minister is in Australia for talks

10:23 am on 29 April 2008

The Solomon Islands Police Minister Samuel Manetoali is in Australia to meet various senior officials involved with the deployment of personnel to the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands, RAMSI.

He will hold talks with the National Manager of the International Deployment Group, Frank Prendergast.

The Group is the body responsible for preparing all Australian and Pacific Island police for deployment to Solomon Islands.

It is hoped that the visit will help the Minister and the Permanent Secretary have a better sense of how RAMSI police personnel are prepared for deployment in the Pacific and elsewhere.

The Solomon Islands delegation will also hold talks with the Deputy Superintendent of the Australian Capital Territories Correctional Service Centre and visit the Corrections Centre in the Australian regional town of Goulburn.
