Team of heart specialists from New Zealand will be in Samoa in July

Another team of heart specialists from New Zealand will be in Samoa in July to conduct open heart surgery for patients with heart conditions.

At 15 pateints are set to undergo heart operations at the Tamasese Meaole National Hospital at that time.

This will be only the second time that open heart surgeries will be conducted in Samoa.

Last year a team from New Zealand carried out the first heart operations in the country, all for free.

The Samoa Observer reports that Papali'i Dr CS Benjamin will again lead the team to perform the operations - again, for free.

Cardiologists will arive in the first week of June to select patients needing heart surgery.

Heart patients were previously sent to New Zealand under government sponsorship.

One open-heart operation is over 40 thousand US dollars.
