Hilary Clinton promises to make Guam a priority if she becomes US President

American Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton is promising she would appoint a special representative from Guam to the Defense Department, if elected.

The Clinton campaign says in a statement this would raise the visibility and priority of the territory's needs at the highest policy levels of the US Government.

The Pacific Daily News says Senator Clinton's promise is the latest effort to woo support in Guam's Democratic Party caucus this Saturday.

She and Senator Barack Obama are competing vigorously for the territory's nine delegates to the party's convention in August.

Mrs Clinton has also promised to order the U.S. Small Business Administration to establish a "Procurement and Technical Assistance Center" on Guam to help local firms bid on military contracts.
