Northern Marianas power utility needs financial help or there will be power cuts

Daily power outages in the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas' may be back soon as the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation enters its third month of partial fuel purchases.

Anthony Guerrero, the corporation's outgoing executive director, has told the Governor that the utility will begin load shedding on a daily basis if it does not get financial help soon.

He says the need to drop demand had been brought about by the CUC's inability to purchase enough fuel to last from one tanker delivery to the next.

Mr Guerrero says a fuel tanker was to arrive last Friday, but the Corporation did not have the money to pay for the full delivery of 20,000 barrels worth US$3.1 million.
