Fiji's former opposition leader asks Ombudsman to investigate deportations

Fiji's former opposition leader, Mick Beddoes, says he's appalled at yet another rapid deportation from the country.

Evan Hannah, an Australian citizen, was deported on Friday.

It follows the deportation order for the former Fiji Sun publisher Russell Hunter in February.

Mr Beddoes says he has asked the ombudsman to investigate both deportations.

"Despite their excuses, they are really attempting to muzzle the media as best they can and this is a form of intimidation that they are trying to use and they are hiding behind certain immigration provisions that allows them to do this."
