The cannery, Samoa Packing Chicken of the Sea International, which owns COS Samoa Packing in American Samoa, has declined to discuss any measures the company plans to implement due to last year's minimum wage increase and the next hike set for later this month.

Responding to media inquires, the company said that its operations in American Samoa continues as efficiently as possible despite increasing costs partly fueled by the minimum wage increase implemented in 2007.

It says American Samoa's economy remains challenged with the minimum wage hike and the company is continually exploring cost-saving options in conjunction with minimum wage increases.

Any additional decisions regarding cost-saving options will be discussed directly with company employees.
