American Samoa's government departments have been told to prepare for a lift in the minimum wage later this month.

The Governor, Togiola Tulafono, says the Federal ordered increase in the minimum wage is likely on May 25th.

He has told departmental directors to look at their rank and file and identify those who are subject to the 50 cents per hour pay hike.

Togiola says anyone making less than 9 thousand 500 dollars would be entitled to a raise.

He has also told the directors to review where some workers can be purged from the payroll.
