A special meeting of the media association in Solomon Islands has heard a call for the regional media organisations, PINA and Pacnews, to moved away from Fiji and what was described as the intimidation of the interim regime.
The president of the Media Association of Solomon Islands, John Lamani, said the organisations should instead be re-sited in a safe media environment like the Solomon Islands,
Mr Lamani said in Solomon Islands the fundamental human rights to freedom of expression and information are cherished and flourish.
He said as a result, Solomon Islands had one of the most free and vibrant news media in the region.
Mr Lamani, a Pacific Islands News Association (PINA) founder and life member, made his call during World Press Freedom Day celebrations in Honiara.
